The Old European Cut, Perfected
A CLOSER LOOK
View Transcript
My name is Greg Kwiat and I want to help you learn everything you need to know to buy a diamond. I’d like to introduce you to the Fred Leighton Round, the old European cut diamond perfected. Let’s explore what makes the Fred Leighton round extraordinary and how we have perfected the art of cutting this classic shape. The old European cut diamond is round in outline and has a distinctly different fastening and brilliance from the modern round brilliant. The old European has a softer antique style brilliance and the appearance of larger facets typical of diamonds cut at the turn of the 19th to 20th century, a period where diamonds were meant to sparkle by candlelight. Today, the old european cut appeals to those who love the vintage style and appreciate the historical beauty of an antique cut diamond. With over 100 years of diamond cutting skill and experience, we set out to evolve the old european cut of the 1890s with contemporary technology and consistent dimensions. The result is the Fred Leighton Round, the perfected old european cut. Unlike most original old Euros, the Fred Leighton round is perfectly round and outlined with precise facets and proportions. The Fred Layton round has a slightly larger table and a smaller, more refined culit than the original counterparts, which works to achieve a more attractive and harmonious balance. All Fred Leighton rounds receive excellent polish and excellent symmetry from the GIA, a rarity for diamonds of this shape. The Fred Leighton round will appear larger in size for the same carat weight and will appear whiter than its GIA color grade. With our proprietary standards and proportions, the Fred Leighton Round is the perfect combination antique charm and contemporary precision.
THE MARK OF PERFECTION
We laser-inscribe the diamond’s girdle with our Tiara logo, a hallmark of four generations of expertise, craftsmanship, and trust. And today, it means even more: an assurance that our diamonds are natural, conflict-free, and ethically sourced from known origins.

GIVING BACK

BUILDING A
BRILLIANT LEGACY
Kwiat is a family business with a heritage of service, quality, and integrity. Guided by these values, Kwiat has flourished, blossoming like the family name, which means “flower” in Polish.
In 1907, Sam Kwiat opened a diamond shop in New York City; he was joined by his son, David, in 1933. Today, Kwiat has grown to become a renowned brand led by David’s son, Lowell, and his grandsons, Greg, Cory, and Russell. Like their forebears, they have perfected the science and art of cutting diamonds. And they continue the tradition of trust and authority that Sam Kwiat established more than a century ago.
CUSTOMERS ARE FAMILY
As we welcome you into the Kwiat family, we’ll share our knowledge and expertise. We will gladly provide advice that suits your situation and budget, with personal recommendations for the perfect diamond jewelry for any special occasion. We take pride in our name and what it has come to stand for. And we are grateful that customers and their families return to us again and again, generation after generation.
