Diamond Size

Diamond Carat

Carat is often the first thing to come to mind when thinking about a diamond’s size. Size and carat weight are closely related but there are other factors in a diamond’s appearance. Cut and shape also play a role in whether the diamond appears visually larger or smaller than its actual carat weight.

Kwiat Standards

A properly cut diamond will not have too much weight in hidden areas. The added weight increases the cost without giving the diamond a larger appearance. At Kwiat, we cut our diamonds to keep the carat weight in the right places. Each gem has the widest possible diameter to appear larger than other diamonds of comparable carat weight. And because of their superior cut, our diamonds will appear whiter than their GIA color grade. We call this the Kwiat Tiara® Cut.

Diamond Color and Clarity

Diamond Color

Diamonds are rated on a color scale developed by the GIA, the world’s premier diamond grading nonprofit. The color grading system is based on the alphabet, beginning with the letter D and running all the way through Z. A grade of D is the best possible grade a diamond can receive, which translates to an absence of color. Diamonds with this grade tend to be the most rare and valuable.

Diamond Clarity

Clarity refers to the presence of imperfections, known as inclusions, in the crystal structure of the diamond. Nearly all diamonds contain some sort of inclusion, as they are part of a diamond’s characteristics and structure. An inclusion within a diamond is natural, and on the higher end of the clarity scale, does not take away from its beauty.

Kwiat Values

KWIAT VALUES

Our responsibility to people and planet

At Kwiat, we respect people — not just our customers, but also our employees, community, and those who source our materials and make our jewelry. We also treasure the Earth — the source of our naturally beautiful metals and gemstones. To ensure responsible sourcing practices across every step of the supply chain, we only work with vendors whose values align with our own. We require ongoing responsibility commitments from our vendors, not just for diamonds but for all our gemstones and metals.

We know that there is even more that we can do to protect human rights and advance sustainability. Thus, we make this promise: We will continue to find new ways to track the origin of our materials, creating more transparency about our business as well as each individual sale. We promise to share this information with you in a timely and honest manner.

OUR PRODUCTION

Kwiat directly manages all elements of our creation process, from sourcing to manufacturing to quality control. We craft the majority of our jewelry in our workshop in Midtown Manhattan where we are personally involved in every step of the process, from design to diamond setting. Several craftspeople on our skilled team have worked with us for more than 15 years.

We also produce select styles in workshops around the world that specialize in particular aspects of jewelry making and stone cutting, in locations including Antwerp, Botswana, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Mumbai, Tel Aviv, and Idar-Oberstein. We partner with individual artisans who we’ve carefully selected and trained to ensure they understand our aesthetic and commitment to quality. Each facility is carefully vetted for business practices, including working conditions and materials sourcing, and we’ve deemed them to have standards and quality controls equal to those of our New York City workshop.

OUR MATERIALS

CONFLICT-FREE DIAMONDS

OUR MATERIALS

CONFLICT-FREE DIAMONDS

At Kwiat, we are committed to using only the best quality, most responsibly sourced natural diamonds. All our diamonds come from countries and vendors that are in compliance with the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme, the 2003 United Nations resolution that instituted an international system of verification and certification to exclude from the global supply chain any diamonds that might have been used to fund rebel movements and their allies seeking to undermine legitimate governments.

Our diamonds originate from Canada, Botswana, Namibia, Australia, and South Africa. As traceability becomes more important to our customers, we are working toward providing the origin of each diamond. In March 2022, we modified our supply chain to exclude all rough diamonds and GIA-certified diamonds of Russian origin, regardless of where they were cut and polished.

DIAMONDS DO GOOD

Rough diamonds are one of the main sources of revenue for many diamond-producing countries, creating livelihoods for millions of people. The revenue builds schools, farms, hospitals, and infrastructure. Diamond mining companies re-invest in countries’ food production, healthcare, education systems, and clean water facilities. In fact, one of the greatest benefits of responsible diamond mining is how it provides access to education and healthcare, paving the way for empowered girls and women. Read more here.

EMERALDS

OUR COLORED GEMSTONES

Kwiat seeks out the purest, most deeply colored emeralds on Earth, sustainably and ethically sourced from the Muzo and Chivor mines in Colombia, where requirements for healthy working conditions and fair pay are enforced. We strive to source our other colored gemstones from suppliers who ensure safe working conditions and environmentally responsible practices. This is an area in which we will continue to improve standards and traceability.

OUR PACKAGING

OUR PACKAGING

Kwiat sources our jewelry packaging from vendors who use Forest Stewardship Council® certified paper. The Council works to promote sustainable forestry using a system of inspecting and tracking timber and pulp to ensure it is being sourced in an eco-friendly manner.
