CUT

- Round brilliant diamonds are the most classic of all of the diamond shapes
- The cutting style of the round diamond has evolved over the last 150 years with the evolution of scientific study and technology. Today’s modern round diamond is called the round brilliant
- The brilliant cut faceting pattern is made up of a series of triangular and kite shaped facets placed on the top and bottom of the diamond
- This faceting pattern gives the modern round diamond its intense brilliance and fire
- The GIA report for a round brilliant diamond will typically read “Round Brilliant” for the shape and cutting style.
- Of all of the shapes, the cutting style of the round brilliant is most well-defined and fine quality cutters around the world will adhere to a relatively narrow set of angles and proportions when cutting the round brilliant shape.
- The cut quality remains the most important quality element for a round brilliant
- A poorly cut diamond can have an inconsistent or unattractive brilliance and be too deep and therefore small looking
- The GIA assigns a Cut grade for round brilliant diamonds, the only shape to receive this grade
- All Kwiat Tiara Cut Round diamonds receive the Excellent cut grade from the GIA. In fact they are always Triple Excellent (Excellent cut, polish and symmetry)
- At Kwiat, we have the strictest set of standards in the world, and the GIA cut grade of Excellent is not enough to earn the Kwiat tiara designation. We also have strict standards for depth percentage, table percentage, angles and facet proportions
CARAT WEIGHT

- Round diamonds show their size well. In fact, Kwiat Tiara Cut Round diamonds will appear bigger and brighter than other round diamonds.
COLOR
GIA COLOR SCALE
- Round brilliant diamonds do not show color very readily as compared to other shapes
- Round diamonds tend not to show much color when face up all the way through the J color range.
- Sometimes when comparing round brilliant diamonds of different colors, people may perceive the higher color grade to be “brighter”
- At Kwiat, we select diamonds that do not show obvious color for their respective color grade in order to ensure that our diamonds face up as beautifully as possible
CLARITY

- Because of the brilliant cut faceting pattern, the sparkle of the round brilliant can often mask any internal inclusions.
- The sweet spot of the clarity range for round brilliants is typically between VS1 and a good SI1, (as long as the SI1 is clean to the eye)
- The occasional SI2 clarity diamond can be clean to the eye as well, although these are rare
- At Kwiat, we select diamonds that are the best of that grade, and you can be assured that our diamonds do not show eye-visible inclusions.
- In particular, Kwiat’s SI1 and SI2 clarity diamonds are carefully selected and will always be the very best of the grading range, clean to the eye
RATIO

- The “ratio” of a diamond is its length divided by its width. For a round or square shape, the ratio would be 1 and the higher the number, the more elongated the diamond will appear.
DEPTH PERCENTAGE

- In order to achieve the Excellent cut grade, round brilliant diamonds are cut within a very tight depth percentage range between 59% and 62.9%
- Kwiat Tiara Cut Round diamonds are cut to very specific parameters at the shallower end of this depth percentage range in order to maximize the size appearance and brightness of the diamond
- Round brilliant diamonds with the Excellent cut grade that fall outside of Kwiat’s parameters for depth percentage and other metrics will look small for their size and will not be as brilliant as a Kwiat Tiara Cut Round diamond
TABLE PERCENTAGE

- Table sizes for round brilliant diamonds can range generally between 55% and 61%
- Kwiat Tiara Cut Round diamonds are cut to a tighter range between 57% and 61%, for the perfect balance of brightness and fire
- Round brilliant diamonds with table sizes outside of Kwiat’s parameters will look small for their size, may have a higher depth percentage, and will not be as brilliant as a Kwiat Tiara Cut Round diamond
