KWIAT COLOMBIAN EMERALDS
LUSH COLOR AND MESMERIZING BEAUTY
Carat is often the first thing to come to mind when thinking about a diamond’s size. Size and carat weight are closely related but there are other factors in a diamond’s appearance. Cut and shape also play a role in whether the diamond appears visually larger or smaller than its actual carat weight.
A properly cut diamond will not have too much weight in hidden areas. The added weight increases the cost without giving the diamond a larger appearance. At Kwiat, we cut our diamonds to keep the carat weight in the right places. Each gem has the widest possible diameter to appear larger than other diamonds of comparable carat weight. And because of their superior cut, our diamonds will appear whiter than their GIA color grade. We call this the Kwiat Tiara® Cut.
Diamonds are rated on a color scale developed by the GIA, the world’s premier diamond grading nonprofit. The color grading system is based on the alphabet, beginning with the letter D and running all the way through Z. A grade of D is the best possible grade a diamond can receive, which translates to an absence of color. Diamonds with this grade tend to be the most rare and valuable.
Clarity refers to the presence of imperfections, known as inclusions, in the crystal structure of the diamond. Nearly all diamonds contain some sort of inclusion, as they are part of a diamond’s characteristics and structure. An inclusion within a diamond is natural, and on the higher end of the clarity scale, does not take away from its beauty.

LUSH COLOR AND MESMERIZING BEAUTY
Emeralds have been among the most sought-after gemstones on Earth for more than 4000 years, and the incomparable quality of Colombian emeralds has been known for centuries. These vivid dark green specimens are quite rare and can sometimes cost even more than diamonds of the same size.
Since ancient times, emeralds have been mined in Colombia and prized among royalty. Other countries, including Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Brazil are also sources for emeralds, but Colombian stones possess the deepest color. At Kwiat, we sustainably and ethically source our Colombian emeralds from the Muzo and Chivor mines, renowned for the unrivaled purity and beauty of their stones.
An emerald’s value is largely based on its color, which is determined by its hue, tone, and saturation. Kwiat carefully chooses stones that meet the highest standards of these measurements. Although some inclusions are to be expected—in fact, emerald inclusions are considered so characteristic as to have earned their own name, jardin (garden in French)—we opt for stones with higher transparency and fewer inclusions.
The step cut technique developed for the emerald is so emblematic of the gemstone that it’s known as the emerald cut, even when applied to diamonds. This cut is especially good at making the most of an emerald’s color and brilliance, conveying a geometric elegance beloved by connoisseurs. Kwiat also fashions emeralds as cushion, oval and pear shapes, all of which make ideal center stones in engagement rings, pendants, and earrings.
As mentioned above, although emerald inclusions are normal, a rich green specimen with few imperfections is exceptionally rare. Kwiat emeralds are never treated with colored oil or polymer fillers, an unacceptable practice used by some less reputable jewelers to disguise inclusions.
