Most people know to look for conflict-free diamonds certified under the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) — an international system designed to prevent the sale of diamonds that may have funded rebel movements or unlawful activities. While this is a good starting point, it’s not the full picture when it comes to buying ethically sourced diamonds.

Tracing a diamond’s origin is far more complex than many people realize. Before it’s set into jewelry, a diamond can change hands up to 30 times, moving through a long and opaque supply chain. Even with Kimberley Process certification, conflict diamonds can become mixed with legitimate stones, making it difficult to verify a diamond’s true provenance.

Worse still, “conflict-free” does not always mean ethical. A diamond may technically meet conflict-free criteria but still come from regions where labor practices, environmental impact, or community welfare are far from responsible.

Then, we’ll share your diamond’s journey through the process of cutting, designing, and handcrafting a setting to create your perfect ring. We’ll even send you pictures of each step of the process.

1. Choose a diamond from a conflict-free country, such as Botswana, Canada, South Africa, Namibia, or Australia.
2. Kwiat experts will determine how to cut your desired shape from the rough diamond, maximizing size without sacrificing beauty.
3. After the diamond is meticulously cut, we’ll set it in a stunning ring, custom- designed and crafted to your exact specifications.

Don’t have time for a custom-made ring but still want a piece with ethical origins? Rather than follow the journey of your diamond, you may also choose to buy a cut diamond or a completed ring that has undergone the same process, and you will still receive a documented history of your Mine to Shine diamond.

Rough diamonds are a major source of revenue for many countries, creating livelihoods for millions of people.
